rsg at gamescom 2010 – Solar Struggle playable, other secret project to be revealed

Written by redspotgames at 5. August 2010

Solar Struggle comes to Xbox Live Indie Games and opens up new possibilities for the platform

Written by redspotgames at 3. August 2010

After building anticipation for two weeks, redspotgames and Z-Software disclose the final details of Solar Struggle.
The game will be released for the Xbox Live Indie Games platform and will be available in August 2010. The price will be only 400 Microsoft Points.

As mentioned in the press release two weeks ago, Solar Struggle will set new quality standards on the platform and explore far-ranging possibilities. “This announcement hasn’t been just empty promises,” says Z-Software’s CEO Andreas Heldt, “for example, the graphical details will be much higher than most Xbox Live Indie Games. The story is well thought out, includes plot twists and will be filled with cut scenes and voices from famous voice actors.” David Michael Williamson, star of the English version, has made a name for himself as screenwriter and actor in movies like ‘Over My Dead Body’. Voice talents like Willi Röbke, well-known as the German voice for characters in TV series like ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Futurama’, and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Super Show’ as been hired as well, as have many other talented actors.

Max Scharl, CEO of redspotgames, adds: “Within the last few years there has been a rise in quality among the games of Xbox Live Arcade. We’re trying something similar with Solar Struggle for Xbox Live Arcade. We’re going to test how a high- quality title will be received on this network and see whether it opens up new possibilities.” Not long ago a game like Solar Struggle would have been released as a Arcade Game and not among the Indie Games. The Munich-based publisher redspotgames also contributed to this production with voice recordings and other support. The game has been in development since the end of 2008 and has had the largest budget of all known Xbox Live Indie Games.

The player can get into the act with three different factions: The Consortium, the Outlaws and the Military. There are 9 different ships available which can be upgraded and expanded in any order through achievements from 11 missions. Among them are the ship classes Count, Interceptor and Bomber. Beside them there will be Destroyers and Battleships in the game who need to be protected or destroyed.

The storyline takes place in the year 2169, in which the so-called Consortium is involved in all important mines and colonies of mankind, a result of the cancellation of almost all government-controlled space programs in the year 2016. The Consortium, funded by corporate interests, therefore gained immense power and influence throughout the galaxy. Within this corporate-dominated, money-obsessed atmosphere, strange incidents are happening…

Additionally, a trailer has been released today which gives new insights into the game. More gameplay videos will be released within the next few weeks.

Further information is available at the newly designed product website www.solarstruggle.com, which launched today.

Written by redspotgames at 28. July 2010

Z-Software develops the still unknown game which redspotgames has already announced last week, the Munich-based company disclosed today.

The Dortmund-based Z-Software GmbH already made their mark with the 3D spaceshooter “Doxan” and the internationally well-known “Handball Simulator 2010: European Tournament”. It is the first true simulation of the popular ball game on the PC. The company was founded back in 2008, comprises a team of 5 employees and also offers further services such as motion capturing. Additionally it has been revealed that it’s a “3D Arcade Space Shooter”. The game offers 11 diversified and action loaded missions and a “Skirmish” mode, that contains a battle area in which the player has to compete against a wave of enemies. You’ll find 3D models of the ships attached.

Impressions from the voice recordings

Written by redspotgames at 27. July 2010

We would like to thank everyone to participated at the fan voice recordings at BARBEQ Studios near Munich last Sunday! It was a real pleasure to talk to fans and see their ambition to be part of this project.

The voice actions who gave their talent to the game also had a lot of fun with the production. Willi Röbke (well-known among the German TV audience for his voices in The Simpsons, Futurama or The Super Mario Bros. Super Show) seems to have liked it so much that he spoke more sentences than he usually was asked for.

We’re still not finished with the mastering due to the massive material, but we don’t want you to miss some impressions of the last days.

Secret project: redspotgames reveals further information

Written by redspotgames at 23. July 2010

After the announcement of a new project that will be revealed within 2 weeks, the Munich-based company redspotgames has released further information about this title.

According to statements, the project will test wide-ranging possibilities for both the industry and the title’s chosen platform, which has never before featured a project of such quality and scope, and is sure to be closely watched by other developers and publishers. Should the title be successful on this system, it may usher a in new wave of quality on the platform in general. Indeed, the platform was chosen specifically to test its possibilities – and stretch its limits.

Additionally, redspotgames has disclosed that they are not only appearing as the publisher and promoter of the project, but also are involved into the development process. This is a logical step for redspotgames, who intend to increase their involvement in all future projects. They already influenced the development of the predecessor product “Rush Rush Rally Racing” by Senile Team with bug fix tests and suggestions.

The next production step of the current title are the voice recording sessions that redspotgames will coordinate, book and supervise. Aside from the previously-announced “synchronization work for everyone” on July 25th, to which fans of the company are invited to give their voices to non-player characters, redspotgames has also hired major voice actors to lend their talents to the project.

Talent includes David Michael Williamson, an internationally-known media consultant, writer, film and voice actor since the 90s who has participated in the following productions:

2010 – “Victory Day” (by Sean Ramsay)
2010 – “Södner-X 2: Final Prototype” (voice)
2009 – “Ceasefire” (as Press Officer)
2001 – “I was the King of Porn… The Adventurous Life of Lasse Braun” (as Narrator)
2000 – “Ring of Fire” (voice)
1995 – “Nur über meine Leiche” a.k.a. “Over my dead body” (as Death)
1985 – “Voice of America”

Voiceover work for a dozen companies such as Microsoft, Siemens, Virgin, Universal Studios, Discovery Channel, BMW, Allianz, et al.

For the German version, redspotgames has announced Willi Röbke, who has given dozens of famous international productions their German voice:

1989 – “The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!” (as “King Koopa”)
1989 until today – “The Simpsons” (as “Moe Szyslak”, “Rainier Wolfcastle”, “Aliens” and “Fat Tony”)
1995 – “Earthworm Jim” (as “Psy-Crow”)
1999 until today – “One Piece” (as “Morgan”)
1999 until 2003 in “Futurama” (as “Leonard Nimoy”)
2001 until 2005 – “Star Trek: Enterprise” (as “Damrus”)
2008 – “Futurama – Bender’s Game” (as “Morbo”)

Within the coming weeks even more details will be revealed until the game will be completely presented in early August.

Brand new redspotgames shirts – and DCS shirts back in stock!

Written by redspotgames at 2. July 2010

If you have been to the Games Convention 2008 in Leipzig, any other exhibition we have participated or just watched our photos from those fairs very carefully, you might have recognized the redspotgames Staff T-Shirts the team has worn there. At every event we were asked the similar questions: “Where can I buy those shirts?” or “Will there be fan shirts soon?”

Well, unfortunately the staff shirts are (indeed) for redspotgames employees only, but since today we can answer the last question with a decidedly “Yes”!

Introducing our new shirts: “redspotgames eagle”, and we bet you already know which one of those two this one is, and “i <3 redspotgames", dedicated to old school gaming and pixel art!

Both designs are made on Continental Clothing shirts from the United States (you can compare them to American Appeal, if you have some of them around, go test them!), no sweatshop goods, that means neither the shirts nor the prints are done by workers with no trade union, starvation wages or other poor work conditions. If you want more information on this topic, please review CCs pages concerning their social and environmental responsibility We want to offer you T-Shirts without any ethical issues.

Additionally, we are could arrange a deal with Dreamcast Scene in order to reprint their two designs “one” (with the DCS logo) and “Prestige” (European styled coat of arms) and offer them at the redspotgames online shop once again.

Since we are taking care of the production, the Dreamcast Scene shirts will be produced on Continental Clothing as well, so they have the same quality and ethical standards as mentioned above.
